Which Steam installer should I download?
Use SteamSetup.exe for 64-bit Windows, steam.dmg for a supported Mac, or Valve's Debian package for compatible 64-bit Linux systems. Valve offers one Mac DMG; it starts as an Intel-only bootstrapper and updates itself to the current stable Universal client.
Does Steam still support 32-bit Windows?
No. Valve ended Steam Client support for Windows 10 32-bit on January 1, 2026. The 64-bit client can still run supported 32-bit games on 64-bit Windows.
Does Steam need Rosetta on Apple Silicon?
A fresh installation currently does. Valve's website DMG contains an Intel-only bootstrapper, so macOS asks to install Rosetta on an Apple Silicon Mac. That does not mean you downloaded the wrong file: after the first update, Valve's current stable Steam executable and core client components are Universal binaries with native arm64 support. Individual games may still have their own Rosetta requirements.
