Office 2024 on Windows ARM64: Choose the Right Version
Understand Office 2024, Microsoft 365, 32-bit, 64-bit, and Windows ARM requirements before installing on a Surface Pro or another ARM PC.
On a Windows ARM device such as Surface Pro 11, use Windows 11. Microsoft lists Office Home 2024 and Office Home & Business 2024 as supported on Windows 11 ARM-based devices; for Microsoft 365 Apps, use the 64-bit edition on Windows 11 unless a specific legacy add-in requires 32-bit. Install through Microsoft's account page, not an unofficial ARM64 mirror.

Identify the Office product first
Microsoft 365 is a subscription with release-channel updates. Office Home 2024 and Office Home & Business 2024 are one-time-purchase suites. Office LTSC 2024 is a volume-licensed edition for organizations. The product name and license determine the installer flow, so do not treat every Office 2024 or Microsoft 365 download as the same package.
What Microsoft says about Windows ARM
Microsoft's Office 2024 requirements list Windows 11 as the minimum supported operating system for ARM-based devices. Microsoft also says the 64-bit edition of Microsoft 365 Apps for Windows ARM requires Windows 11, and 32-bit feature updates have already ended with security support scheduled to end in December 2026.
Check your Windows architecture
Open Settings > System > About. In Device specifications, look for ARM-based processor. If you see an ARM-based processor, you are on Windows ARM. An Intel or AMD PC normally reports an x64-based processor and should use the x64 choice offered by software vendors.
Choose the official installer
- Sign in to Microsoft's Microsoft 365 Apps page with the account that owns or manages the license.
- For Microsoft 365 Apps on Windows ARM, choose the 64-bit edition on Windows 11 unless a known legacy add-in or integration requires 32-bit.
- For Office 2024, use the install option attached to the product in your Microsoft account. Microsoft documents the Windows ARM requirement, but you should not replace that account-led route with an unofficial ARM64 mirror.
- After installation, open Word or Excel and use Account > About to confirm the product name and bit version.
ARM64 versus x64 emulation
Windows on ARM can run many x64 applications through emulation, but that does not guarantee compatibility for add-ins, drivers, shell extensions, virtualization tools, or security software. Use the vendor's requirements for those components. For the general installer decision, use the Windows ARM64 vs x64 vs x86 guide.
Microsoft 365 versus Office 2024
Microsoft 365 and Office 2024 can share Microsoft's account-led install pages, but they are different products. Microsoft 365 is updated by release channel. Office 2024 is a one-time-purchase suite with its own support lifecycle. Office LTSC 2024 is a separate volume-licensed product; it is not the normal consumer download.
